Plan of farmstead at Downey Hill, Dumfries and Galloway About 1km east of Tanlawhill steading are the remains of what is interpreted as a small medieval steading, situated on a gently sloping terrace close to the foot of the north-east flank of Downey Hill. On plan, the farmstead lies within a stony bank and comprises the stone wall-footings of three rectangular buildings. Set end on into the slope, the largest building measures some 14m by 7m. The yards on either side are scooped from the uphill slope. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
