Scope and Content Redrawn from DC 32376 for publication as comparative plan. Plan of a prehistoric settlement at Easter Earshaig steading, Dumfries and Galloway Occupying a low rise immediately north of Easter Earshaig steading are the remains of a multi-period complex of earthworks and buildings. Numerous round-houses, turf-banked enclosures and a defended settlement indicate a lengthy prehistoric occupation of this site. The pair of stone-built kilns and the rectangular turf-built structures relate to an earlier steading at Easter Earshaig. Settlements like this enclosed timber-built round-houses with a yard for keeping animals and storage. A mixture of animal husbandry and arable cultivation were likely practised by the inhabitants.
