Scope and Content Redrawn from DC 32379 for publication as comparative plan. AL, December 1995, amended 10 April 1996. Plan of a scooped settlement on Beattock Hill, Dumfries and Galloway Situated on a terrace on the eastern flank of Beattock Hill are the remains of a prehistoric settlement. The grass-grown stone footings of a rectangular building indicates post-medieval activity. Roughly circular on plan, the settlement is defined by a bank badly damaged by stone robbing, especially on the west. The rear of the settlement has been levelled into the slope. Settlements like this enclosed timber-built round-houses with a yard for keeping animals and storage. A mixture of animal husbandry and arable cultivation were likely practised by the inhabitants.
