Scope and Content Plan of an enclosed settlement on Beattock Hill, Dumfries and Galloway. Redrawn for publication from DC 32375. AL, 31 August 1995; amended 11 April 1996. Situated on a low spur projecting from the north flank of Beattock Hill are the remains of a roughly oval settlement. Although now tumbled in places, the settlement's enclosing drystone wall was of considerable thickness when it was first constructed. Within the settlement are the remains of two houses. Settlements like this enclosed round-houses with a yard for keeping animals and storage. A mixture of animal husbandry and arable cultivation were likely practised.
